SPRING CLEANUP , FOR DAVID BROWN

Yesterday was a great day for preparing the gardens for the Spring and Summer seasons. It was also a fine day to have my first small fire. I burned some branches cut from the various shrubs. It was hard starting the fire because everything was very wet but it was a wonderful peaceful day.

One of my most pleasant memories from my childhood was the lovely smell of burning leaves and grasses in the Spring time. It was not uncommon for folks to set fire to the many vacant fields of dried dead grass, as it was believed that it would enhance the growth of new grasses for the animals to graze on. Back then, a lot of folks kept working ponies, and they let them feed in the vacant lots and fields. Thanks for the image Mike....Love it! Dave
