REFLECTION, CHIEF COMMANDA, NORTH BAY

This picture is for Mr.P. I am very glad you are enjoying our pictures. Here is an image of the old Chief Commanda reflected in the melting ice of Lake Nipissing. The photograph looks more like a painting than a straight photograph. I would like to point out that I did not use any filters but just enhanced the colour and contrast. Hope you like it.

JUST LIGHT AND SHADOWS

I am always drawn to simple abstract compositions made up by light, shadows and like in this image colour.

This picture is for Rob. He likes visual comfort food so here is a picture of a cyclamen plant in my living room. By the way I occasionally also love comfort food.

EARLY SPRING, LAKE NIPISSING

Amazingly the snow is almost gone. That is very early for this time of the year. Even the ice on the lake is showing the first signs of breakup.

MANNEQUIN, CALLANDER, ONTARIO

I noticed this mannequin in the Callander Museum, which is very similar to museums in small towns and villages everywhere. This museum is in the old house of Dr. Dafoe, the physician who delivered and looked after the Dionne Quints.

THURSDAY IS WING NIGHT, BONFIELD, ONTARIO

Stopping at the Bonfield Tavern I was attracted to the pool area. I guess it was the intense colour scheme of the place. Of course the place looked like any other tavern in small town Northern Ontario.

EARLY SIGNS OF SPRING

You know Spring is close when you see the snow melting and the water running. Backlight sets the mood for this image in addition to a strong graphic effect.

ANTLERS

My friends Rob and Bob invited me to come with them on a little photo "safari". It was a beautiful day with great cloudy skies. Driving along we noticed a very intriguing , I call it , a sculpture made of antlers hanging over the entrance gate to a hunting lodge. At least thats what we thought it was. Of course we had to get pictures of this curious object. To see more images got to Rob's blog, Northern Perspective. Rob has three different views of the gate and hanging sculpture.

A SPACE NOT AS EMPTY

I thought you might enjoy this one Rob. The title is from a poem by Lorna Crozier.

RUNNING OUT OF TIME

This image is a total change of direction for me. I am experimenting with making new images using different photographs of nature subjects. I like the quality you can achieve using Photoshop as a tool for printmaking. Where it will lead I don't know but I am enjoying this new path.

SPATHIPHYLLUM 'MAUNA LOA'

Again it has been quite awhile since my last posting. I have been busy with other projects. I did not go out to do more pictures. Maybe it is just waiting for the flowers and leaves to appear. This morning I noticed the sunlight on the spathiphyllum. It created some very nice shadows which made for a very interesting abstract image.

LAST WINTER IMAGE FOR THIS SEASON

Hopefully this is the last picture of this Winter season. Over the weekend the rain came. Today was actually almost Spring weather. I hear the snow melting, the creeks are running and in the morning the birds wake me up. All welcome signs of the new season.

Time for another posting. I just came back from a little photo trip. The weather is definitely changing the temperature is much warmer so it won't be long and most of the snow will be gone.

WINDOW FROST

The frost on the window formed some interesting patterns. The frost together with the out of focus trees looked like some Chinese or Japanese landscape drawing.

AZALEA

This morning the thermometer showed -32°C. No it certainly does not feel like Spring. To celebrate the coming of Spring I post a picture of the beautiful azalea in our living room.

BIRD'S-NEST FERN

I have been busy with other projects but here is an image I like of a bird's-nest fern.
I enjoy the strong graphic aspects of plants and flowers.

WINTER WATERFRONT, NORTH BAY

It still looks cold but the sun is surprising warm. Actually I was interested in the graphic quality of the subject. Winter is definitely a black and white photographers season.
