EARLY MORNING LIGHT

The snow is almost gone from our garden. It is very peaceful walking through the garden in thevearly morning light and seeing familiar features reappearing from this long Winter. Seeing the still bare trees and the first traces of new growth are the very first signs of Spring. What I like in this particular image is the tactile quality of the rock combined with the early morning light.

EYES

Weatherwise it has been a couple of miserable days. First two days of heavy rain followed by the return of Winter this morning. So I decided to post another picture from my fence images. This time a toned black and white print. The original picture shows an opening between the two fence boards, which I simply moved together to enhance the eye effect. Again, forbthose of you interested, the image was processed on my iPad.. 

RAIN

It has been raining steadily for a full day and night and will continue for most of today. But, the good news is that the snow is almost gone. I took this picture yesterday afternoon. Again I processed it on my iPad using three different aps and the result reminds me of the work by the Canadian artist Jean Paul Riopelle.

ABSTRACT

Passing a woolden fence, I tok a series of pictures of some very beautiful patterns in the wood. Using a few apps again, I simply accentuated colur and pattern. 

POPLARS

Photographed these poplars on our afternoon walk. It was a beautiful Spring day. Much of the snow has disappeared. Spring has definitely started. I processed this image on the iPad again using three diferent apps. I think I am getting a better understanding what you can do with these new tools. All in all it is Quite exciting.

Thanks for your recent comments. I am glad you liked my interpretation of the Montreal office building. As I explained before, i am still experimenting with the various apps on my iPad. It pushes me along very different creative roads. So here is another interpretation. Hope you like this one.

PORCH STEPS, NORTH BAY

Back to straight photography. This is what I prefer. A simple subject turned into an abstract pattern of lines and shapes. The black and white image has a stronger visual impact than my original colour version.

OFFICE BUILDING, MONTREAL, PQ

Still Winter, so again a good time to experiment with various apps on my iPad. For this picture I used two apps first Handy Photo then brought that image into another app called Decim8. Finally I refined the image using Photoshop. Its just an experiment, which I don't know if this is the direction I like pursue further.

GIFT SHOP, MONTREAL,PQ

Winter has returned. The weather is pretty awful today so its a good time to work on some of my pictures. I made this image in Montreal. I liked this wooden statue of this gentleman. The picture was too colourful so I simply turned the background into black and white to create contrast between the sculpture and the busy background.

Back to some of the pictures I took in Montreal. This picture was taken in old Montreal. it is a very abstract image with strong dominant vertical lines. 

WATER IS RUNNING

It is still early Spring but the snow is definitely melting. Its very nice to hear and see the water running. I took this picture last Saturday while walking along Chippewa creek.

WAITING FOR THE WARM WEATHER

Photographed this old chair in front of the garage of the North Bay artist John Weiss. It is still very cold but I know that soon the warm weather will arrive. Its been a long Winter. 

SPRING ARRIVAL

This year Spring is quite late. The early signs are around us and yesterday on one of our little Spring walks I took this picture of the melting ice floating down Chippewa creek. 

ABANDONED GRAIN ELEVATOR #5, MONTREAL

Detail of the abandoned grain elevator #5 in Montreal. This elevator handled the grain destined for Europe. I like these old historical structures with its textures and colours. 

WHAT IF ART RULED THE WORLD, MONTREAL

Photographed this street art I noticed in a downtown alley in Montreal. I simply liked the image. 

RED DOOR, MONTREAL, PQ

I just returned from a few days visit to Montreal. Eventhough the weater was not the greatest, with lots of sunshine but very cold, it was an enjoyable trip. We were staying in the old part of the city where I took quite a few pictures. Here is one image I liked, which I simply titled "Red Door". Using my wideangle lens to emphasize the perspective, I was particularly interested in the pattern of the windows and the contrasting red colour of the door. 

GARDEN FENCE, NORTH BAY

When photographing this fence, I thought about the images the ninteen century photographer Fox Talbot, who invented the paper negative in eighteen forty. I always liked the quality of the images created in that time. Of course the images have a rather romantic quality, which I enjoy. At the moment there is a real revival of  the tintype photography, which look very similar to the first paper negative prints. However this type of photography is almost exclusively used for portrait photography. Look at this webpage reviewing the work of a San Francisco photographer Michael Shindler, who works with tintypes. 

FERGUSON STREET, NORTH BAY

By exposing for the strong sunlight on the building the image is reduced to light and shadow. Making this picture visually quite intriguing. This image was processed, usung a few aps, and posted from my  iPad. I had to upload the image via Picasa but it was a very simple process.

PAINTING EASELS

Today I am learning how to ppost to my blog using my iPad. Its actually quite simple. The only step I  had to learn was that you have to load your pictures into a Picasa album. After that it was a piece of cake.

END OF WINTER LANDSCAPE

Last night I downloaded a brand new photo app, called "Handy Photo", onto my iPad. Of cxourse I had to find out how it worked and , I have to say, I simply love it. It offers a wide variety of tools and filters. So here is my first experiment with a picture I made a few days ago. I think this is going to be one of my favourite photo apps.
