KANATA NEW SUBDIVISION

I just returned from a family visit in Ottawa. I took some time taking pictures in a new subdivision in Kanata, a community on the west side of Ottawa. Lately I have been attracted to making landscapes in urban areas so exploring this new development gave me the chance to see how we are changing our environment and I must confess that I don't enjoy the changes we are making.

OLD CAR, NORTH BAY

Walking around a downtown neighborhood I photographed this old car quietly getting "older" in a driveway.

BILLBOARD, NORTH BAY

This picture is for Dave Brown, who is leaving North Bay. He will be missed because he is a very good photographer. So enjoy yourself in Windsor Dave and keep on taking pictures.What interests me here is texture and colour. The strong red is what draws my attention to this image.

TREE, LAKE NIPISSING

Thanks André and Carole for your comments on my pictures. Here is another image of Lake Nipissing. I reduced the picture to the minimum of elements,sky, water and tree. Hope you like the effect.

GOVERNMENT DOCK, NORTH BAY

Again time to post a picture. I have been busy with other projects lately so I have neglected my blog. Here is an image I took a few days ago of the government dock here in North Bay.

ANOTHER VIEW, PORT DOVER

This is a general view of the abandoned building André. As you can see it is totally hidden by vegetation. At one time the building must have been in use because the glass door looks quite recent but now it is in a poor state. Just as you said its a pity.

ABANDONED BUILDING, PORT DOVER

Time to post again. Last Tuesday we visited Port Dover, a small town on the shores of Lake Erie in Ontario, where I saw this abandoned building at the local cemetery. It was totally overgrown and crumbling. It just was sad to see this nice piece of architecture so neglected.

as I mentioned earlier I look at cities as a ever changing art gallery. I am attracted to subject matter which reflect my enjoyment of art, which translates into images like this wall in an ally in downtown Toronto.

WALKWAY NATIONAL GALLERY

When visiting Ottawa I always visit the National Gallery. It is not just for the exhibits, which are always terrific, but also just the pure pleasure of the architecture.

WHITE FENCE, OTTAWA

Lately I have concentrated more on the urban rather than the natural landscapes. I am interested in city landscapes because of the different visual,social and historical importance of cities.

CLOUD, OTTAWA

I just returned from a family visit in Ottawa. This picture is one of the very few images I had time to make. Of course I am planning to go back and explore some interesting areas in the city. I did enjoy this picture of a painted "cloud" on a wall.

PAVEMENT

On my daily walks I always take my camera with me. Subject matter is not always exciting but trying to make visually interesting pictures from such simple material, like these cracks in the pavement,are always good creative exercises.

GARDEN POND, NORTH BAY

This morning I took some pictures in the garden of the old monastery, which is now the fine art campus of Nipissing University. I made a few good images which I will show over the next few days.

These sad looking trees were on display outside a large store. I liked the colour and the pattern of this scene.

CITY INSTALLATION ART

I can very seldom get excited about art installations so prevalent in art galleries today. Lets say it definitely is not my favourite art medium. Walking around cities you can find the very same art but which is much more interesting because it has a specific context.

Still working in black and white so here is another of my city pictures.I think cities are the true living art form. They are an ever changing visual art work which makes living and visiting cities so exhilarating.

TEMPERANCE STREET, TORONTO

When I just arrived in Toronto, I worked for a photographer who had his office on Temperance street in Toronto. This street, like most places downtown, has been totally transformed. The old office where I worked is gone. Just a parking lot surrounded by tall buildings has replaced the early twentieth century building, changing the whole feeling of the place. I guess thats progress.Pity.

INFRA-RED LANDSCAPE

I made this rather classical landscape a few days ago when we enjoyed some sunshine. The cloudy skies were beautiful, which gave me the idea to work in infrared to emphasize the dramatic effect on landscape images.

DOOR, TORONTO

Walking through a dark little passage between two old buildings downtown Toronto I noticed this small metal door. I thought about the Harry Potter books and imagined walking through this old door into a completely magical world. Nonsense? Maybe.
