HIGHWAY BOOKSTORE, COBALT, ONTARIO

Yesterday I visited the Highway Book Store in Cobalt. The bookstore is actually just outside of the town but is a well known source for second hand books. It is a ramshackle place which, besides the books of course, gives this store its unique atmosphere. What interested me was the perspective and the texture of the books, which made a very colourful abstract image.

WINTER BIRCH

I have been busy the last few days so I have neglected my blog. Well the Winter is still around so here another black and white picture of fog and snow. Another two days and Spring will be officially here. I like to thank Kim in Tirana, who posted a very personal and thoughtful impression on my last picture.

WINTER FOG, NORTH BAY, ONTARIO

Yesterday the warm air created some heavy fog patches along the lake. Of course it was also good for getting some strong graphic images.I photographed these trees at Sunset Park here in North Bay.

RAIN

Welcome rain. The snow is disappearing quickly. At least I don't have to shovel rain.

THORN'S FARM, NORTH BAY, ONTARIO

The weather changed. Today we have rain for a change. Its nice of course because it makes the snow disappear faster. The rain and fog make for some images with lots of atmosphere. This farm is just down the street where I live.

WINTER FOREST

Time to post again. Winter is slowly moving on. The first signs of Spring are here. The crows are back and the ravens are busy building their nest. Its nice to hear the water run when walking through the bush.

SNOWSHOES

It was a beautiful day for snowshoeing. After I returned I saw the sunlight painting my snowshoes a bright yellow with a strong dark blue background. I enjoy snowshoeing and like the shape and patterns of the traditional models.

RED RIVER CEREAL BREAD

Made some nice loafs of cracked wheat bread yesterday. They were cooling in the kitchen in the sunlight so I couldn't resist making some images. By the way the taste is excellent.

SNOWDRIFT

We are into March. Last month we received a record amount of snow, 162 cm or 5.5ft. The snowdrifts form very interesting and beautiful textures and patterns.

IRIS

An early Spring, I wish, my wife came home with a bunch of flowers. I could not resist taking some pictures. This iris just stated to open. Simply beautiful.

WINTER CONTINUES

Winter does not let up. More snow for the next few days. I can't wait for Spring. I always enjoyed the Winter season but for the first time I just long for some warmth and colour.

I liked the contrast between the snow and the running
water.It made for a nice simple but still interesting image.

WINTER, NORTHERN ONTARIO

Today I went on a little photoshoot. It was sunny but very windy which made for some nice images with blowing snow. I took this picture when clouds started to move in with just a little sunlight and together with the blowing snow made a nice image reflecting a cold winter day.

CYCLAMEN

The Winter has really settled in. After digging out yesterday I really am looking for colour. By the way this picture is for Jan, an old student from way back, who surprised me with a very nice email. I am excited that she is studying photography and looking forward to see her work.

WINTER STORM

A big snowstorm overnight left a hugh amount of snow. I took this image early this morning while trying to pick up the morning paper from the box. It looks very romantic but of course I will have to get out to clean the drive way.

LOOKING FORWARD TO SPRING

Seeing the brightly coloured tulips on the table makes me look forward to Spring. Winter is nice but I miss the colours of the other seasons.

WINTER TRAIL, NORTH BAY, ONTARIO

Every day I snowshoe into the woods. Literature and art influence the way I experience landscapes. This abstact image reminds me of some of Jackson Pollock's paintings or the large abstracts by the Canadian artist Riopelle.

SNOW PRINCESS

Walking down the little trail across from our home I saw this snowcovered pine. I thought our six year old granddaughter would immediately recognize the tree as a magical winter princess. So todays image is for Kaitlyn.

DEAD MEN FROZEN IN ICE 3

My apologies for not posting but I was away for the weekend and did not have access to a computer. Kelly obviously liked the pictures but wondered if I had manipulated the pictures in Photoshop. Yes I did, in the first image I enhanced a red reflection in the sky while in the other images I simply darkened the sky and, using curves, enhanced the overall colour. I hope this answers your question Kelly.
