OLD MINING EQUIPMENT, COBALT, ON

Abandoned mining equipment of course makes for interesting compositions. Cobalt has many sites which offer great opportunities for very fine images.

RUINS, COBALT, ONTARIO

This week I will post some images from the small town of Cobalt. In the early twenteith century this place was a booming mining town with about 200 large and small silver mines. All that is left are the ruins of the smelters and mines and of course abandoned equipment. Its sad but it also reminds us as photographers where our basic resource, silver, came from and what is left behind.

Photographed this old barn door in Callander, Ontario. I just liked the abstract quality of this close up.

ALONG THE TRAIL, NORTH BAY, ONTARIO

Early morning along the trail. Its a grey day and a feel of early autumn I love the pattern of the trees. I like the contrast between the textured trees and the dark silhoutess of the ones in the background.

LIFE GUARD, LAKE NIPISSING, ONTARIO

A blustery day today. Actually I welcome change after a very hot June and July. Walking along the beach this morning I had to take a picture of the lone life guard on the beach. Today you noticed that Fall is just around the corner.

HUNTS POINT, NOVA SCOTIA

I just enjoy photographing rock Its not just the tactile and graphic quality but also a, I presume, subconscious affinity with this most ancient and basic element.

OLD MORTAR, ANNAPOLIS ROYAL, N.S

While visiting the old French fort at Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia, it struck me how even weapons like this old mortar were, rather ironically, beautifully decorated.

BLUENOSE II, LUNENBURG, NOVA SCOTIA

The "Bluenose II" is a replica of the legendary schooner "The Bluenose". I took this image on a very dark, grey day when the ship was home in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. I just enjoy photographing boats and ships, which maybe had to do with wanting to go to sea when I was very young..

SOBEY'S SUPERMARKET, NORTH BAY, ON

Coming out of the supermarket I could not resist this subject. Not a great picture but just fun.

PORT ROYAL, NOVA SCOTIA

Port Royal is the earliest settlement in North America north of Florida. I saw this window which attracted me because odf the texture and colour. Glass was expensive at the time of settlement so people used a form of parchment instead. Of course in time the windows would deteriorate, the result of which you can see in this image.

ALONG THE BAY of FUNDY, NOVA SCOTIA

The variety of vegetation appears to run down like a little stream between the rocks. The picture was taken on a trail along the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia

STORE WINDOW, SAN FRANCISCO, CA

I said earlier that I am always intrigued with store mannequins or dolls. This picture I made in San Francisco and it reminds me of some of the paintings by the Belgian artist Ren� Magritte. Hope you like it

STORE MANNEQUIN, TORONTO, ONTARIO

I am always intrigued by store mannequins. I guess its the expression or lack of it which makes these dolls look eerie. This one I saw in a store in a district popularly called Little Indai in Toronto.

Walking through Stratford, Ontario I saw this bowl with candy in a store window. It was a good subject for a few very interesting abstract images.

BUNCHBERRIES

Close to my home are some very interesting trails.I photographed this pattern bunchberries. I used an old Rolleiflex TLR with a 80mm Planar lens. I still love to use this camera and as long as film will be available I will keep on using this camera.

WATERFRONT, NORTH BAY, ONTARIO

Very hot and humid today. Walking on the waterfront I photographed this cool reflection. I needed this little cool fantasy.

ROCK FORMATION, LAKE NIPISSING, ONTARIO

I could not resist posting one more image of the serie on Lake Nipissing. The image shows a rock formation but the light and texture make transform the rocks into some strange prehistoric animals.
