CEDAR GROVE

One final image from our visit to Fort Temiscamingue. At this park you will find a interesting small cedar grove. The trees are twisted in a variety of shapes, which make this site a great source for visually interesting photographs.I will certainly go back when I have more time to look around.

FURS, FORT TEMISCAMINGUE

In an essay on the Abitibi Fur Brigade the artist and writer Arthur Heming (1870-1940) describes how the furs were transported from the Hudson Bay post on Lake Abitibi to Lake Temiskaming. The Abitibi Fur Brigade was the last of the once famous canoe flotillas. They operated till the early twentieth century.

FORT TEMISCAMINGUE

Yesterday we made a trip around lake Temiskaming. In Ville Marie we picnicked at the site of the old Fort Temiscamingue. I had not been there for a few years and was surprised at the changes on the site. First I was not sure if I liked the reconstruction of the fort by showing only elements of building and rooms. After looking at my pictures I realized that instead of building a replica they made it look like the remnants of buildings. Very similar of what you would see on other countries which show the ruins of the former site.Hope you like it Nonie.

BARN, PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY

Thanks for your comment Nonie. Here is another picture of the same barn. I liked the pattern of the light in this image. This place was wonderful. It was a pity I couldn't spend more time there. The palce even has an old pioneer graveyard. But I will go back next year and hope to get many great images.

IT FEELS LIKE FALL

Walking along lake Nipissing I noticed a change of colour of the lake. Of course its only a feeling of Fall which made me see the steel-grey and blue colours of the water as the arrival of the new season.

NORMAN HARDIE WINERY

We started our tour with a visit to the Norman Hardie Winery in Prince Edward County. This winery is in a class by itself. The wine is simply superb. Try the Pinot Noir unbelievably good. The other interesting part of this visit is that the wine tasting area is inside the winery itself. You are surrounded by the large French oak barrels and the work continues around you. I loved it.

BIRDHOUSE, PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY

Yesterday we did a wine tour of Prince Edward County. It was a glorious day. We visited five great wineries and I can recommend visiting this area. The area is still largely rural and the wineries are small. I photographed this birdhouse at the Chadsey's Cairn Winery, which is actually an old farm. Check out their website. I definitely plan to go back and stay longer so I can , in addition to tasting the wine, spend more time taking pictures.

LAKE TRAIL

Another view of my favourite trail along Lake Nipissing. I prefer to take evening shots after the sun sets. The colours are much richer and you don't have to worry about the enormous contrast in light. But walking along the trail I saw the almost magical light of the sun streaming from between the trees. It is of course a very romantic view but I could not walk by without taking the picture.

ABANDONED BOXCAR, NORTH BAY

Today I took some pictures of an abandoned boxcar. I was very interested in the textures and lines of this rusting old train car.

CANNA

Photography makes you look around and see various subjects you would otherwise ignore. Yesterday I was waiting for someone and noticed the light shining through the leaves of some cannas. I took some pictures and when I reviewed them on my computer I was surprised by the strong colours. They are not just green but show a variety of hues.

SUMMER SKY, NORTH BAY

I made this image in the old pictorial tradition. Romantic, of course but just enjoy it.

ICECREAM CONE, HAWKESBURY, ONTARIO

I have not posted for quite some time. The reason is that I have been busy with other things like staining the house. Anyway I thought to celebrate Summer with this "statue" of an icecream cone I photographed while passing through Hawkesbury.

RAKE AND BARN, UPPER CANADA VILLAGE

Lately I have been interested in nineteenth and early twentieth century photography. This picture reminded me of some earlier work by Paul Strand. The composition is based on various rectangles of different textures and contrast. The rake just adds a visual contrast to the image.

WATERLILIES, NORTH BAY, ONTARIO

I photographed these lilies in the garden of a former monastery. This monastery has been bought by Nipissing university and will house their new fine arts program. It is a simple image of light and pattern.

DOOR, PERTH, ONTARIO

Today was too hot to do much of anything so I worked on a few pictures I took the last few days. The area around Ottawa is rich with very picturesque towns and village. One of these towns is Perth. The day before yesterday I visited Perth and made a few interesting pictures. This image is quite complex because of the rich textures and shapes. It looks more Mediterranean than Canadian. Maybe thats why I liked it.

PICADILLY CINEMA, WILLIAMSBURG, ONTARIO

again we played tourist today. We went on a day trip to Upeer Canada Village. On the way we came trough the town of Williamsburg. I noticed the old abandoned Picadilly cinema and could of course not resist taking some pictures. This was my favourite image of the several pictures I took.
